The Robert Burns Society of Charleston

The Robert Burns Society of Charleston was originally formed and registered with the South Carolina Secretary of State as The Robert Burns Society of Charleston, LLC on April 21, 2020.

Effective June 2, 2022, the Society re-incorporated from an LLC under the authority of the South Carolina Secretary of State.

The Society is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes as defined under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or the corresponding section of any future federal tax code.

Mission Statement

The Robert Burns Society of Charleston Inc. operates as a non-profit organization focused on preserving and advancing Scottish-American history and the broader traditions of Scotland, including its culture and military heritage, within the South Carolina Lowcountry. Its work is delivered through public programs and events, as well as by encouraging high standards in traditional disciplines such as Highland Bagpiping, Highland Dance, Scottish Fiddle, Scottish Harp (Clàrsach), and the Scots Gaelic language. The Society also contributes to the academic success of the Scottish-American diaspora through grants and scholarships.

The Robert Burns Society of Charleston Inc. is recognized as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to celebrating and sustaining Scottish-American heritage in the South Carolina Lowcountry. This commitment includes the promotion of historical awareness, cultural expression, and military traditions associated with Scotland. The Society fulfills its mission by hosting educational and cultural activities, supporting the mastery of traditional Scottish arts—such as Highland Bagpiping, Highland Dance, Scottish Fiddle, Scottish Harp (Clàrsach), and the Scots Gaelic language—and by providing grants and scholarships that support academic advancement within the Scottish-American community.
